Tough Weekend - 2023 V8 SuperUte Series Round 3 – Bendix Racing Round Wrap-Up
he third round of the 2023 V8 SuperUte Series saw Dave Casey and team Bendix Racing make their way down to Victoria for the 2023 OTR SuperSprint. The Bend Motorsport would play host to four races of the series across the weekend with the SuperUtes action running from Friday to Sunday. After making his maiden outing at The Bend last year, Dave was keen to take what he had learnt about the track last year and apply it with the new 2023 Bendix Racing Dmax.
The V8 SuperUte festivities would kick off on Friday morning with a practice session where Dave would clock the 9th fastest lap on the grid, sending the Bendix Racing Dmax around The Bend to a best time of 2m39.27s whilst battling wet weather conditions throughout the session. Qualifying for the weekend would commence later that Friday afternoon. After four laps, Dave would qualify in P11 after a 2m15.12s best time on that final lap.
Saturday would begin with Race 1 in the morning and mark the beginning of a weekend of challenges for Dave Case and Bendix Racing. The team would battle a mechanical fault that would see them without power steering for the entirety of the race. However, despite this, Dave still managed to steer the Bendix Racing Dmax up three places to a P8 finish for the first race of the weekend. Race 2 would kick away later that day with Dave starting in pole position thanks to a reverse grid start. Despite a hard-fought race, Dave would continue fighting the car’s power steering gremlins which would ultimately see him end Saturday with a P9 result for Race 2.
The drama would amp up on Sunday with Race 3 commencing in the early hours of the morning. Race 3 would see Dave get spun out, ultimately leading to a P13 race result. Sunday afternoon’s Race 4 ended in disaster after a start-line accident would wipe out multiple drivers, including Dave. Race 4 would ultimately be declared a non-race after it was decided that there was too much debris to clean up to continue, with no points being awarded.
A tough weekend for the team would see Dave and Bendix Racing move to 6th in the championship with 366 points to wrap up the 2023 OTR SuperSprint.
The 2023 V8 SuperUte Series continues next month when the team heads to Victoria for the 2023 Penrite Oil Sandown 500 from September 15-17.
