Dave Casey's Isuzu Dmax V8 Superute takes P6 in Winton in a wild and challenging round

T

he third stop on the 2022 Haltech V8 SuperUte Series saw Dave Casey and the team head to Victoria for the 2022 Pizza Hut Winton SuperSprint. Victoria’s famed Winton Motor Raceway played host to four races of the series, with SuperUtes action running across the entirety of the weekend.

The ULT4WD SuperUte’s first outing of the weekend was Friday morning’s practice session, allowing Dave to familiarise himself with Winton’s course layout behind the wheel of the D-Max. The 20-minute practice session saw Dave make the most of his track time, ultimately earning a best time of 1m39.88s on the 10 lap - the 10th fastest lap of the session. Friday’s qualifying session took place later in the afternoon with Dave posting even faster lap times, ultimately ending the session in P11 with a best time of 1m39.31s.

Race 1 kicked away on Saturday morning with Dave Casey starting the racing festivities on a high, earning himself an impressive P7 finish after a hard-fought 10 laps. Race 2 began on a particularly exciting note, with Dave kicking things off in pole position. A hit from behind later in the race proved a hindrance for Dave, ultimately resulting in a P9 finish and a long night ahead for the team repairing the ULT4WD SuperUte for Sunday’s outing.

After getting the ULT4WD SuperUte back into shape, Sunday’s SuperUtes action began first thing in the morning with Race 3 being the first scheduled event for the day. The team’s efforts to get the D-Max back in top shape proved fruitful with Dave crossing the chequered flag in P8. Before Sunday afternoon’s Race 4, the team were hard at work on the ULT4WD SuperUte yet again, this time adjusting vehicle setup. With the car feeling much better, Dave ended the final race of the weekend in P7. The weekend’s culminated efforts resulted in an impressive P6 outright result to cap off an action-packed Winton SuperSprint.
